Among Nintendo™s DS community, a certain rumor has been bouncing around for months. The speculation is about a new DS model in the works, and when it will, if ever, be released. The original rumors were based on comments made by Nintendo marketing manager Reggie Fils-Aime, who confirmed that a new DS was on the way sometime in the future. The question as to when sometime would be has held DS fans in suspense. The rumor mill was churning in high gear just a scant week and a half ago when an independent Japanese retail store confirmed the stories of a new DS. The retail store personnel said that Nintendo representatives were telling them to get ready for a major announcement, according to accounts given to GameIndustry. Oddly enough, only a few days ago, David Yarnton, general manager ...

An apology by Nintendo has been posted on the company's Japanese website for the lack of availability of the popular portable gaming system. Nintendo said that the demand for the system exceeded what the company had anticipated, and thus lead to a shortage in the system. This comes as a reported one million units were sold in the two weeks before the Christmas holiday. Nintendo intends to supply retail outlets with DS units on a weekly basis while increasing its production through late January. The Nintendo DS currently retails for $149.99 in the United States and a price drop for the system to $139.99 is likely.
Nintendo has reported that their handheld DS console has recorded over 5 million units of sales in Japan so far since the system has been released. Not only that, but the DS has beaten all other gaming hardware in Japan in sales per unit in the year 2005. This hardware includes other popular systems in Japan such as the Sony Playstation 2, Sony PSP, and Nintendo™s own GameBoy Advance. Satoru Iwata (President of Nintendo) stated that the Nintendo DS was the fastest system to reach 5 million units sold ever. In case you just emerged from your powerless, lightless cave, note that the DS is outselling the PSP in the United States by a good margin as well. Getting off of the topic of hardware, Iwata also mentioned that sales for DS software is doing quite well. In fact, four of their curr...
By Mark Woodward, GN Writer Thursday, November 24, 2005 In Australia, when you're pulled over by the police for possible "driving under the influence", you're asked to blow into a bag and if the reading is above .05, you're off to the hospital for a blood test. In new rules being tested here over the past twelve months, a simple plastic scraper, ran across your tongue, will also check you for driving whilst under the influence of drugs. Seems scientific enough and we appear to be using technology and science to keep our roads safe. In England however, they've taken another tact. In news from across the waters, Police may soon be testing for drugs by making you play a Game-Boy style handheld. Scientists are currently developing the device which drivers will 'play' when suspected of driving ...
