Dad sells GH III because his kid smoked a joint

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 12/06/2007 at 10:55PM CST by Frank Ling, Editorial Director

GH JointA dad in Canada decided to do the ultimate for his 15 year-old son...hit the streets in search of the very rare Guitar Hero III game in his neck of the woods.

After lots of sweat and miles, he scored and went home to give his son the grand prize. All was cool until he arrived home early.

Read the saga in the dad's own words on his posted ad from eBay:

"So I spent who knows how many hours of my life trying to get "Guitar Hero 3" for the Nintendo Wii for my 15 year old son who has been begging for it since he was born (well not really but he's wanted it for awhile). So after waiting in lines and going into every game store in the city over the last 2 weeks (practically being laughed at when I asked for guitar hero 3) I finally got lucky and got one at EB Games (they just got a shipment of th...

Ninja Gaiden II bloody gameplay

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 12/06/2007 at 12:08PM CST by Eddie Inzauto, Senior Editor

Haven't you heard?  Ryu Hayabusa has changed professions.  The former ninja and general badass is now, well, still badass, but has decided to become a butcher.  The following exciting clip shows him during a typical day on the job.

Seriously, though, is there a third-person action game that comes complete with as many bucketloads of blood as Ninja Gaiden II?   I don't know - you be the judge:

First Street Fighter 4 screenshot

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 12/06/2007 at 11:31AM CST by Billy Wang, Previews Editor

kenstreetfighter4After a surprising announcement two months ago, information about Street Fighter 4 has been rather mum lately. But today on 1UP, some new information was revealed, including the first in-game screenshot.

First, the gameplay will be primarily 2D, retain the classic 6-button controls and the game will include new moves, locations and gameplay features.

Returning from past rosters are Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Dhalsim, but the rest of the roster is unknown. Lastly, platforms weren't revealed but hints are pointing at PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

More information will be revealed in the January 2008 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly. But in the meantime, hit the jump to see the screenshot!

Dark Sector video

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 12/05/2007 at 11:07AM CST by Eddie Inzauto, Senior Editor

Now here's a game that is actually looking pretty good. Dark Sector takes a Resident Evil 4/Gears of War perspective and delivers a combination of shooting and blade-throwing action that is very easy on the eyes. This clip shows the protagonist eliminating his enemies in a light downpour, and leads me to believe that this may be just the type of game I'd like to play this coming January. Take a look:

Xbox Live Silver members get hosed

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 12/04/2007 at 10:08PM CST by Billy Wang, Previews Editor

xbox360Major Nelson is reminding everyone that due to the recent Fall update, Xbox Live Silver members won't get access to free content on the Xbox Live marketplace (like demos) when they are first posted.

All the free content will be available to Gold level members for one week, then Silver members will get the free stuff.

I see both sides. First, Gold members can now breathe in their exclusive membership since they get the free stuff first. But on the otherhand, essentially you have to pay money to get free stuff earlier. But on the other otherhand, an Xbox Live Gold membership is not that expensive.

MajorNelson ends with, "This is not done to annoy our Silver members-limited time exclusive access to content is just one of the many benefits of having a Gold Xbox Live account."

Do you think this i...

Minor problem with 360 dashboard update?

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 12/04/2007 at 02:00PM CST by Frank Ling, Editorial Director

XBLThere seems to be a bug in the new 360 Dashboard update related to changing your Live ID.

According to a post by a forum staff member at the xbox.com forums, if you change your Live ID, which is linked to your gamertag, you'll lose the ID on all your forum posts, CUL and icons associated with your gamertag. All your resulting messages on the xbox.com forums will read as "anonymous."

Here's the post from the forums:

"If you change the Live ID associated with your gamertag (as the Dash update allows you to do), you will lose all of your forum posts, CUL and icons. All your posts will appear as ‘anonymous'. We're hard at work on a fix, but we don't have a fix ready to go out with the update.

"If you are particularly attached to your Community User Level or forum icons please DON'T change y...

Atari prices 360 game higher than other platforms

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 12/03/2007 at 06:00PM CST by Tim Mellish, Staff Writer

atariVideogames aren't cheap and unless one has an incredibly large expendable income, buying an interactive experience, for most of us, is not done lightly. The game has to be good, and more importantly, the price is right.

So it has to make one wonder just what the heck Atari games is thinking of when they announced there would be different prices for their upcoming game Conflict: Denied Ops by Pivotal Games.

The only good point about this story is that this pricing variation has not hit the states. Our friends down under are not so fortunate. Conflict: Denied Ops will be priced at $69.95 on the PC, $99.95 for the PS3, and $109.95 for the Xbox 360. There has been no information about why Xbox 360 owners have to pay more.

We should all be worried about this.

There is no reason different platform...

Turok vs. t-rex video

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 12/03/2007 at 10:34AM CST by Eddie Inzauto, Senior Editor

Oh how we've all missed Turok (and all of his mediocre first-person shoooters). Well, he's still out there struggling for dominance over an entire class of extinct animals. This new Tuork video sees the bow-wielding wonder battling a massive tyrannosaurus rex. What's on display here doesn't look half bad, and reminds me of a few of my past romps through the Catskill Mountains...

Enjoy.

Pirate vs Ninjas Dodgeball trailer

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 12/01/2007 at 04:03PM CST by Eddie Inzauto, Senior Editor

This is (almost) exactly what the gaming world has been asking for. The classic clash between swashbucklers and shadow-lurkers is coming to a head - in a children's playground game.

Pirates vs. Ninja Dodgeball doesn't look like a game I would necessarily go out and purchase, but it is a humorous idea none-the-less. Take a look, and then wish that the next step is full-on world-sprawling warfare between these two factions, with some zombies thrown in to spice things up a bit.

BioShock patch next week; free DLC!

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 11/30/2007 at 03:47PM CST by Billy Wang, Previews Editor

bioshocksteamAn update to The Cult of Rapture mentions that the BioShock PC and Xbox 360 patch will be released next week. The widescreen woes will be fixed, among other bugs.

But here's some good news, the planned BioShock downloadable content will be free! The DLC will bundled with the PC patch and released separately over Xbox Live. It's currently unknown if the free DLC will be a one time deal or a consistent release.

As of writing, additional plasmids will be added, along with the ability to disable Vita-Chambers.

Ken Levine hinted that he wanted the DLC to be pretty beefy, so hopefully they don't disappoint. But I like free things so much, I'd be happy with some free downloadable Big Daddy armor.

In the meantime, we have to play the waiting game. Once the patch/DLC is released, that'll give me a go...

Fable 2 coming late 2008

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 11/30/2007 at 03:47PM CST by Billy Wang, Previews Editor

fable2combatAll hype aside, Peter Molyneux revealed that Fable 2 will be released in late 2008, according to Eurogamer. In addition, Molyneux mentioned that Lionhead Studios is working on another game.

"We are working on a title now which is kind of a hybrid of Dimitri. I am really, really pushing the powers-that-be to allow me to tell/show the world this new project. I know I am prone to say things like 'great', 'revolutionary' and 'ambitious', but this new project its absolutely great, revolutionary and ambitious!"

For you folks who don't know, Dimitri (or The Dimitri Project) is/was a code name for a PC game that's under development at Lionhead Studios. There's speculation that Fable 2 evolved from Dimitri, but it's unconfirmed; also there's speculation that Dimitri was replaced by a new game project...

GameSpot editor fired over game review?

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 11/30/2007 at 03:17PM CST by Billy Wang, Previews Editor

kanelynchWhat seemingly started out as another Penny Arcade comic may have led to the opening of the floodgates of hell. The headlines are surely ablaze today with rumors that long-time GameSpot reviewer, Jeff Gerstmann, was fired allegedly over his Xbox 360 review of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men.

Many think this is what happened: Eidos invested heavily into the game's advertising on GameSpot and when they saw one of the site's reviewers bashing the game, Eidos snapped its fingers and Mr. Gerstmann disappeared; however there are other sides to the story.

For one thing, Gerstmann has certainly attracted a love/hate relationship with gamers over his 10 year stint. Several of his reviews have been met with criticism, such as an 8.8 to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess or a perfect 10 for Tony Hawk's Pro ...

El Paso police lure criminals with free Xbox 360

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 11/29/2007 at 06:40PM CST by Billy Wang, Previews Editor

handcuffsThe El Paso Times reported on a successful line of police stings that led to 115 arrests on Monday. From November 5-9, a warrant roundup took place by El Paso police and they used promises of prizes including a television and an Xbox 360 to lure criminals over. When they showed up to claim their winnings, they were rewarded instead with a free vacation to jail.

In addition to 129 warrants being cleared, El Paso picked up over $25,000 in traffic fines. The warrants served included drug charges, illegal entry charges and violent crimes.

Police chief Richard Wiles said, "We are very pleased with this operation. This is the kind of operation that really benefits the community of El Paso. I think it is important for the citizens of El Paso to know what the Police Department is doing and what the ...

Medal of Honor series in trouble says Gearbox prez...

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 11/29/2007 at 06:33PM CST by Kelly Ng, Content Writer

mohGearbox Software president Randy Pitchford recently told press that the once successful Medal of Honor franchise is now "in trouble."

Wow. Imagine that!

Pitchford began to criticize the franchise stating "I think they're confused right now. They're partially speaking not as a dedicated World War II game, but just as a game.

"I think if you're going to just make a shooter, there's other subject matter you can pick that give them more flexibility to do the kinds of things they've been wishing to do. Like upgrading weapons and things like that? That just doesn't belong in an authentic war game."

It's one of the risks you run for jumping on the World War II bandwagon. Medal of Honor is in no way trapped; look at the direction the Call of Duty franchise went. Anyone want to bet Medal of Honor wil...

GTA IV Boxart and trailer announced

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 11/29/2007 at 06:30PM CST by Kelly Ng, Content Writer

GTA VRockstar released some non-controversial news for the first time in months: GTA IV's official box art. They pretty much summed up the game with a helicopter, a motorcycle, a girl sucking on a lollipop, a man on a cell phone and a black man with cornrows.

But if you MUST find out the details of the game, I GUESS you could play it when it comes out.

They also announced the new trailer due on December 6th 3pm EST titled, "Move up, ladies." Be prepared for some traffic though, because everyone and their mother is going to be logging on at the same time.

Halo 3 crashes 360s? Class action lawsuit says yes...

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 11/29/2007 at 03:22PM CST by Frank Ling, Editorial Director

balancesMicrosoft is used to getting sued. But this latest lawsuit even has the well-seasoned lawyers over at the Big M sweating it out a little.

A new class action suit against Microsoft alleges that it's blockbuster game, Halo 3, is incompatible with Xbox 360s and is the cause of crashing and making the machine unstable.

This can't be good news as the Xbox 360 has already taken major hits for repair warranty costs to the tune of $1 billion. If this class action suit goes to court and the charges against Microsoft are proven correct, it could take a big chunk out of the profits of its biggest selling game to date--Halo 3.

CNBC discusses the problems of the 360's Red Ring of Death and the charges. For a look, check out the video here.

Activision CEO wants $199 console prices in two ye...

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 11/29/2007 at 12:11AM CST by Billy Wang, Previews Editor

activisionDuring the Reuters Media Summit, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick made some comments regarding the price for the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360.

Like others have echoed in the past, Kotick said that the prices must fall to $199 in the next two years or else they'll lose the consumer market.

"In the next 24 months they all will need to be at that $199 price point, and you can imagine Nintendo will be down to the $129 price point over the next few years."

$199 is pretty cheap but I wouldn't expect a price drop like that till for several years, especially now that the consoles have hit their stride lately. Kotick gave praise to the PlayStation 3 but denounced its $400 price tag.

Regarding the Wii, Kotick said, "The Wii at its price point is now setting a standard and an expectation, and people say,...
