John Woo OUT- Anderson IN to direct Spy Hunter film

spyhunterThe ball will start rolling again on the delayed Spy Hunter movie now that director Paul W.S. Anderson has signed on to direct the film according to Variety. Anderson will fill the vacant director spot left by John Woo, who was attached to the film project since May 2004. In addition, Anderson will be working on a new script with another unnamed writer.

It’s unknown if Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will still star in the film. He has been attached to the film since September 2003 and has already starred in Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run, the Midway game released last year that was supposed to serve as a video game tie-in.

Since the movie was delayed at the time, the game had to be released early in order to recoup the production costs.

Anderson’s next film is a remake of the cult-classic 1975 movie Death Race 2000, which stared David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone. A subsequent video game inspired by the movie was released in 1976 titled Death Race. The game was notorious for its violence and was the first game to receive organized protests. In the end, only 500 units were produced.
