Mortal Kombat going handheld with Vita

The popular fighter is coming to handhelds.

One of the most pleasant surprises of 2011 and winner of the Best Fighting Game Nodie was Mortal Kombat, the reboot of the series of the same name. After a successful console launch last year, the game will now be making a transition to the handheld realm as Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced it will hit the PlayStation Vita this spring.

“The NetherRealm team is committed to making sure that we follow up the success of 2011’s Mortal Kombat with an equally compelling experience on the PlayStation Vita,” said NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon. “The original game content and new features we developed for the PlayStation Vita will provide gamers with the best fighting game experience available on the new mobile platform.”

The Vita edition of Mortal Kombat will feature everything that made the console versions so successful as well as new exclusive features that Warner Bros. stated would be revealed in the coming months. Based upon its box art, which can be viewed below, it will also include all current DLC fighters (Freddy Kurger, Rain, Skarlet, and Kenshi) and PlayStation 3 exclusive character Kratos.

Any who are anxious to get their hands on the game right now can head to one of Sony’s numerous Vita Hill Social Club locations, where the game will be on display.
