Want Far Cry for free? Deal with ads first!

fearadsLooks like publishers are in a giving mood this week. First, it was Command & Conquer Gold for free, now it’s a few Ubisoft games for free. There’s a catch with Ubisoft’s games though: they have in-game advertising.

The games are Far Cry, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon and Rayman Raving Rabbids. As of press time, I only downloaded and installed Prince of Persia. During installation, it forced me to log-in with my Ubi.com account, which never occurred when I installed a retail copy of the game in the past.

As for the ads themselves, they’re displayed pretty prominently in the game menus. While those can be ignored, you can also be treated randomly to video ads too, which you can’t skip over. Ads also appear during game loading, which may slow loading times down on older PCs. Other than that though, the game itself is ad-free, thankfully.

Lastly, these downloads were only on FilePlanet as of press time, but I imagine the games will appear elsewhere throughout the day. If you can stomach in-game ads, getting just Far Cry alone for free is a heck of a good deal. What do you folks think of in-game advertising?
