New Lost Planet updates coming August 16th

lostplanetCapcom is planning round #2 of updates for the PC version of their shooter Lost Planet: Extreme Condition (round #1 was released on July 17th). On August 16th, the update will contain DirectX 10 enhancements, a basic chatting system and new maps.

The DirectX 10 upgrades will contain (tech mumbo jumbo ahead) "specialized DirectX 10 Geometry Shaders that’ll improve visual quality, depth of field, motion blur and fur shading". As for the basic chatting system, the update will include a chat window along with four default message options that players can use to communicate with each other. Along with being able to use in-game, the chat system can be used in the lobby and the result screen. There will be different default chat messages depending on which medium you’re speaking through.

Lastly, the PC update will add Map Pack #2, which includes Battleground (an abandoned town), Lost Technology (map built in old-school 8-bit game), Ruins (ancient temples in a jungle) and Ice Drop (a massive glacier).

But Xbox 360 fans won’t miss out; the above mentioned maps will be available as Map Pack #3 and will be available on August 16th, in conjunction with the PC update, for free. Lastly, another patch will be released in a few weeks for the Xbox 360 that’ll contain fixes and updates for network connectivity.

Here’s an example screenshot of the in-game chatting system:
