The Mesmer returns as final Guild Wars 2 profession

The Final Guild Wars 2 Profession

ArenaNet has been mum for months about the studio’s upcoming MMORPG Guild Wars 2, but now, on the cusp of potential rival Star Wars: The Old Republic‘s release, a leaked trailer has revealed the Mesmer to be the game’s eighth and final profession.

This major splash of news confirms the original Guild Wars profession’s existence in the sequel and showcases its new abilities. The old Mesmer was a control character that relied heavily on hexes and counter spells, and it appears not all of that will be lost on the transition to Guild Wars 2.

From the video, the Mesmer looks to utilize the use of illusions and other similar forms of magic to not just control, but confuse and heavily damage his or her enemies. From purple-shadowed clones that can explode upon the player’s command, to powerful magical blasts and circles embedded in the ground that can teleport allies or turn them invisible, this final profession looks to be just as versatile in combat as its seven counterparts.

Martin Kerstein, ArenaNet’s German Community Manager, stated that someone had “jumped the gun” regarding the release of this video and that the Mesmer’s official reveal will come this Wednesday.

Until then, enjoy the video in full below.
