Microsoft hasn’t made any official comments regarding recent rumors that its next generation console (code named Durango) will require an internet connection to function. However, Ars Technica is reporting that an internal e-mail refuting these rumors was sent to all full-time employees working on the company’s next game console.
According to Ars Technica, the e-mail says, “Durango is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today’s Internet.”
“There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should ‘just work’ regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game,” quoted Ars Technica.
To be clear, Ars Technica has not yet, to this point, provided evidence of this e-mail, nor proof of its legitimacy.
If this information is to be believed, gamers without an internet connection, or those who choose not to connect, should be at ease.
