Giant Bomb’s Ryan Davis passes away

Ryan Davis

Some very sad news hit the videogame industry earlier today, as we learned that former GameSpot editor and Giant Bomb co-founder Ryan Davis passed away on July 3. He was only 34 years old and had just been married days earlier.

I never met Ryan Davis. I never interacted with him on a forum or on Twitter or any popular social website. But I watched/listened to him nearly every day on Giant Bomb as he brought joy and laughter to gamers everywhere, myself included. The impact of his loss can hardly be expressed in words.

In the face of such devastating news, it’s important to think back on the good times. As Matthew Rorie said in today’s Giant Bomb article on Ryan Davis, “many of us will at least always remember him as we last saw him: outrageously, uproariously happy, looking forward to his next adventure with the biggest grin his face could hold.”

So queue up some Giant Bomb videos today or download a podcast or two and see what made Ryan Davis such a loveable personality.

The entire GamerNode staff sends its condolences to Ryan Davis’ family and friends.

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
