A World of Warcraft Movie!

For those who have grown weary of hearing about video games being turned into movies, there is more bad news – though this news may bring some genuine interest among gaming fans. Legendary Pictures has announced that they are in the pre-production stages of making a film based upon World of Warcraft. Details are scant, as there is currently no information regarding who will direct the movie (not Uwe Boll, please), and who may be starring. Legendary Pictures was behind the making of Batman Returns and is currently producing Superman Returns.

The New York Times reported that Paul Sams, vice president of business operations at Blizzard said: “…our goal is to make one of the best films in the world. With Legendary, they have a creative and management team that is so attuned with us it was like we were separated at birth. We want to make a movie that will not only appeal to our existing fans, but will also bring in people that have never heard of Warcraft before.”

The track record of movie adaptations from games has been dismal. The majority of the game-movies produced have received jeers from movie critics, movie fans and gamers. Hopefully, the WoW venture by Legendary will start to turn around things around. But if they don,t succeed, it will be another confirmation sign to movie goers that movies based upon games can,t possibly be worth the expense.
