AMD/Dell Deal Set for Spring?

In a much anticipated deal that was reported to be in the works about 3 weeks ago, AMD and Dell may announce a partnership sometime in March. The ongoing processor wars between Intel and AMD have been long and very heartily fought between the two processor giants, with Intel signing on to help Apple out with their notebook computers. With this latest coup, of sorts, Dell is planning to ship with AMD processors in their own notebooks, which are among the higest rated and highest selling notebooks on the market. The switch from Intel to AMD makes more sense for Dell, as it tries to separate itself into a market leader with little or no strings attached. With Intel, Dell always had to stick with what was regarded as an inferior chipset, resulting in poor perfomance and numerous service calls for some customers. As a result, Dell no longer offers its extended service plans as a standard feature of their "award winning service and support," which has become a major selling point for new consumers. With this latest news, the edge definitely seems to be tipped in the favor of AMD, because Apple does not enjoy the same massive marketshare as Dell.
