Best Buy praises PS3 price cut

bestbuyguysAfter the hoopla that was the price drop for the PlayStation 3, the reaction has been largely positive from retailers, consumers and companies alike.

Adding to the reaction is retail chain Best Buy, who acknowledged that the price drop will increase interest for the PS3.

Best Buy’s Brian Lucas said, "We think the price move is great and will help drive increased interest, particularly in light of the dual functionality as a BluRay player. It becomes a viable, cost effective option for people interested in next generation DVD."

Yes, if people get interested in BluRay, it’ll surely take-off but the problem lies with people getting interested in it. Last week, we ran a story stating that out of the 80% of households who own a console with some form of DVD playback, only 13% used the option and 30% didn’t even know it existed.

Best Buy didn’t comment on the rumored price drop for the Xbox 360.

But as of now, it’s definitely a given that the price drop will help out the PS3. With the ongoing E3 convention, you can already see more companies stepping up to harness the PS3 — for example, Metal Gear Solid 4 is a PS3 exclusive at the moment and Unreal Tournament 3 will stay a PS3 and PC exclusive till 2008.
