Call the police! Call of Duty 4 NOT 720p

COD4So it appears that the assertion that "every game shall run in 720p" on the Xbox 360 is not quite the final word in all cases.  The Beyond 3D forums recently hosted a lengthy discussion ending in the revelation that Call of Duty 4 is actually running at 1024x600p, upscaled to the proper resolution.

Before that, it was revealed that the uber-popular Halo 3 only runs in 640p, making this a sort of lower-res trend.  My question is this:  These games look really good, do they not?  So what’s the big deal?

Call of Duty 4, with it’s 2x anti-aliasing, incredible lighting and particle effects, and all-around gorgeous visuals is touted as having some of the best graphics on home consoles to date.  If the point is simply to look good and play well, then should we really care what the resolution is?
