CD Projekt RED announces Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt RED announced this past summer it was developing a RPG based on the pen-and-paper RPG Cyberpunk. With little known about the game aside from a future setting, today CDPR held an announcement event where they revealed the official title of the game: Cyberpunk 2077.

Along with the official name, CDPR also gave some details on the game, explaining that it is an “ambitious RPG for mature audiences, set in the corrupt and tech-advanced world of the year 2077.” CDPR divulged that the game will feature a sandbox setting centered around a bustling metropolis named Night City.

A huge arsenal of weapons, upgrades, implants and gadgets will be a part of the game, and the implants and upgrades will most likely be tied to character customization. During CDPR’s announcement event, the studio also pointed out during the presentation that the title will have “advanced RPG mechanics based on the pen-and-paper RPG and upgraded for the 2077 setting.”

CDPR Co-founder Marcin Iwinski said the game is currently in “early development. Fans of CDPR and Cyberpunk 2077 can follow the development process through it’s official blog which launched today, and can be found here.
