BioWare has released new information for its upcoming MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic, revealing information on the game’s companion characters and first two specialization classes.

Companion’s in The Old Republic will act as travel buddies that will join you on your journey through the Star Wars universe. They will compliment your strengths or weaknesses and will have a variety of different personalities.

"Some will join you for adventure, some for greed, and some for motivations that will remain hidden until much further along in your adventure," reads the description on the game’s site. "The Companions run the gamut from intelligent droids to bizarre aliens, from an honorable princess to a roguish pirate, and each class has a completely unique set of Companions."

A player’s companions will form relationships with the player that can grow and change. Companions have the potential to become best friends, lovers, or even future enemies depending on what actions the player takes on their quest.

The first two specialization classes for the game were also revealed. Each regular class in The Old Republic will have two specialization classes, and for the Sith Warrior those two are the Sith Juggernaut and the Sith Marauder.

The Juggernaut is mostly intended as a massive damage absorber. A tank that will take the brunt of an enemy attack and then smash opponents in the way.

"Through diligence and clarity, the Juggernaut shapes the Force to his will to become nearly invulnerable," reads the class description. "Damage that would destroy others is shrugged off, and futility fills the Juggernaut’s foes with doubt and despair."

The Marauder will be much more speed and damage-dealing based. He is capable of dealing high damage to enemies for quick and efficient kills.

Able to intuit precisely how to attack in order to maximize every strike, their adversaries become victims in the blink of an eye," reads the description. "Whether annihilating a squad of Republic troops or cutting down a single Jedi, the Marauder sees and exploits every weakness to exact the greatest toll."

Based upon the character models used for the classes, the Juggernaut appears to inspired by Darth Vader and the Marauder by Darth Maul. Star Wars: The Old Republic has a target release date for the spring of 2011.
