Deadliest Catch game docking soon

deadliest catchAside from work, school and video games many of us participate in the national pastime of watching television. As for myself, I have to admit that I am a big fan of reality shows such as American Chopper, Little People Big World, and even the occasional episode of What Not to Wear. (gasp)

One program that I swore that I would never get addicted to was the Discovery program called Deadliest Catch. The premise of the show is simple enough — the life and death experiences of fishermen doing their job on the treacherous Bering Sea. The crew braves 40-foot waves, hurricane like storms, and the real daily threat of being killed as they fish for Alaskan King Crab. After one episode, I was hooked.

For those of us who can’t get enough of the television show, a new video game will be released called "Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm." The game will be developed by Liquid Dragons Studios and will be available in April for the Xbox 360 and PC.

According to the press release, "Weather and fishing conditions are based on authentic weather and storm data and get progressively worse each season, increasing the challenge. The ultimate goal is to return safely each season, upgrade your boat and crew, and attempt to break Captain Sig Hansen and the Northwestern crew’s actual lifetime catch of twenty million pounds."

The Hansen brothers, who own the fishing vessel Northwestern, asked the development team crew of the video game to go to Alaska in order to experience life on the high seas during the fishing season so they could make the video game more realistic. Other crab boats such as the Cornelia Marie and Sea Star, which appear in the show, will be featured in the game as well.
