EA Offers Exclusive In-Game Items For Playing Demos

What’s the best way to ensure that fans of one major RPG franchise try out the demo for a brand new IP? Simple: offer incentives for the established RPG!

That’s exactly what EA is doing with the upcoming demo of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. For simply downloading the demo, Mass Effect 3 fans will unlock an exclusive armor: The Reckoner Knight, a Commander-Shepard-meets-Legion-of-Doom ensemble. For finishing the demo, Shepard will gain access to the Chakram Launcher, which spits discs to bring the pain.

Of course, turnabout being fair play, the Mass Effect 3 demo will add bonus items to Kingdoms of Amalur, as well. Downloading the ME3 demo will add stylish N7 armor for your Kingdoms character to wear, while completing it will give access to Omniblade Daggers: two orange-glowing blades of destruction.

I don’t know about you, but if the 2012 Nodies give out an award for Best Marketing Move of 2012, this is it. I was half-interested in Kingdoms while being all-in for ME3, and if trying one makes my experience with the other better, then so be it.

The Kingdoms demo hits January 17 (that’s next Tuesday!), but there’s no known date for the Mass Effect 3 trial as of yet. Both games have a release date of March 6th.
