Epic Mickey 2 accidentally outed

The sequel to the 2010 Wii exclusive exists.

In a newsletter released by Disney earlier today that has since been edited, the company accidentally revealed the existence of Epic Mickey 2, the sequel to the 2010 Wii exclusive developed by Junction Point Studios.

According to the original newsletter, the game is aimed for a Christmas 2012 release and will do so on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii. The game is also referred to as the next installment in the “Epic Mickey videogame series,” suggesting that there may be even more Epic Mickey games to come should the sequel be a success.

Epic Mickey 2 will feature a new two-player split-screen co-op mode with the second player taking on the role of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Walt Disney’s original cartoon mascot and co-star of the first game. While Mickey will still use his trusty paint brush, Oswald will instead rely upon “the power to fly like a helicopter and use electricity to fight or friend enemies and solve challenges.”

Back in August 2011, online marketing materials showed that Epic Mickey 2 was being considered by Disney. The exact same co-op mode described in the newsletter was also mentioned in these materials.

In addition to that, the materials also showed a list of potential titles such as Epic Mickey 2: Return of the Mad Doctor, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two and Epic Mickey 2: Mystery on Mean Street. This same survey then asked participants to choose between four potential box-arts.

It is unknown whether or not Warren Spector and his Junction Point Studios are involved in the development of the sequel. As of this story’s publishing, Disney is yet to comment on the leak.
