F.E.A.R. 3 announced, John Carpenter and Steve Niles on board

F.3.A.R

Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment announced today the next chapter in the F.E.A.R. series, F.E.A.R. 3 or F.3.A.R. The game will see the return of creepy girl/woman Alma and her sons, Point Man from F.E.A.R. and Paxton Fettel, the main antagonist of the original F.E.A.R. and a major player in F.E.A.R. 2. What is interesting though is that the game will feature co-op where you team up with Paxton, having one person control Point Man and the other as the villanous Fettel. Warner Bros is touting the "divergent" nature of the co-op, not elaborating too much on what that could mean.

The game will be developed by Day 1 Studios, the developer known for the original F.E.A.R. console ports, the MechAssault series, and more recently, Fracture. Day 1 Studio’s Danny Thorly commented, "After working closely with Monolith, Day 1 is honored to bring the next iteration of the F.E.A.R. franchise to gamers with key elements of the past games yet providing fresh combat and horror experiences in F.E.A.R. 3." He also dropped that there would be an "evolved cover system."

The last tibit of information and probably the most interesting is the involvement of iconic horror director John Carpenter and accomplished horror writer Steve Niles. Carpenter is known for such movies as Halloween and The Thing while Niles wrote 30 Days of Night. Carpenter will be helping craft the in-game cinematics while Niles co-wrote the script. Hopefully these two guys can bring the terror and make F.3.A.R one horrifying game.
