Full Steam Ahead for 2K Games

Two weeks ago, Activision announced a deal with Valve for several games to be released on Steam, Valve’s broadband delivery system (story). On Wednesday, 2K Games, announced a deal with Valve for some of their games to be released on Steam later this week. So far, four strategy games are part of the plan: Firaxis Games’ Sid Meier’s Civilization IV, Sid Meier’s Civilization III Complete (which includes both expansion packs and several patches) and Sid Meier’s Pirates! and Pop Top Software’s Shattered Union. Civ IV will cost $49.95 USD, while the other three are slated at $29.95 USD.

Gabe Newell, Co-Founder and President of Valve, praised that these games will appear on Steam. He said, "With titles from legendary designer Sid Meier and 2K’s world renowned developer, Firaxis Games, 2K is one of today’s foremost publishers. Through this initial agreement with 2K, Steam’s game library expands to include four great strategy games. We look forward to delivering more from 2K in the future."

Paul Crockett, Strategic Sales and Licensing for 2K Games, exclaimed his excitement for the deal, "We are excited to add Valve to our roster of partners in the digital distribution area. Being included in their vast network will assist us in expanding the reach of our products to a much larger audience."
