GalCiv 2 Expansion Delay, New Features Planned

Stardock Entertainment announced a delay to their upcoming RTS expansion pack Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar; originally planned for release this fall, the expansion has been moved to February 2007. Along with the move-back, Stardock announced that the delay time will open up for new features based on fan feedback and suggestions, including a streamlined technology tree, Mega Events, super abilities unique to civilizations, enhanced visuals and more advanced opponent features.

Brad Wardell, product manager of Galactic Civilizations II, mentions some reasons for the delay, "As our players submitted suggestions for new features, we realized that we didn’t want to have to wait until some future sequel to implement these awesome ideas. So you could say that this expansion- while not quite a sequel – goes far beyond what a usual expansion pack would provide."

Folks who pre-order the expansion before Christmas will be included in a beta, which will start in mid-November. Along with the new features, the expansion will include new units, new maps, a new story-based campaign, user-created opponents, an epic generator, espionage agents, asteroid fields, new diplomatic treaties, unique planet environments and plenty more.

More information can be read on the game’s official site.
