GamerNode Weekly Recap 3/25 – 3/31 : As Always, an Elite Experience

Apparently, by making something available to more people, you piss off the small group that previously had access to the thing in question. At least, that’s the case with games. An online petition stated that its signees would no longer be purchasing Capcom products, following the announcement that Devil May Cry 4 was no longer a PS3 exclusive. Capcom probably doesn’t mind, though, because the loss of sales to a few thousand angry gamers pales in comparison to the potential for millions in sales on the Xbox 360.

This past week saw the official confirmation of a rumor that has been circulating for months; the Xbox 360 Elite is real. Sony felt the need to take a shot at Microsoft’s new system, stating, "We think every PlayStation 3 owner should have an ‘elite’ experience, which is why we include an internal hard drive and HDMI output in every PS3 we sell, along with the 50 GB of storage capacity on a high definition Blu-ray disc."

Sony’s Ray Maguire made a poor choice in calling the United States a massive land with "cheap people," but SCEA has since corrected his statement, instead suggesting that he meant to say that "the cost of living and labor in the two countries are different." Normally, we’d be inclined to act as cynics, but given that in the same story Maguire said, "…and the cost of people is a lot more." we’re willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

We also saw the Grand Theft Auto IV trailer come and go, pleasing many and disappointing others in the process. The trailer also managed to essentially break part of the internet, but that didn’t stop us from getting details and impressions to you — it was our only way to provide an ‘elite’ experience to you loyal readers out there.
