GameTap heading to Mac, more updates on the way

gametapIn an interview with David Reid on Joystiq, the Vice President of Marketing for GameTap revealed several upcoming changes and updates to the online broadband delivery gaming service –which is set to launch today.

First up, GameTap will be launching a new ad-driven service that’ll directly support several upcoming games — players will be able to play those games for free. There’s currently no word on which titles will be available.

appleSecond, GameTap will be heading to Mac this late summer, which is definitely good news for you Mac users out there. Third, Tomb Raider: Anniversary will debut on GameTap upon its release in a few days. This is definitely good news for them, especially since its quite a major release and it’ll surely draw more players over to try it out.

Lastly, GameTap, over the next few months, will have more support with Adult Swim and Cartoon Network, along with more support for episodic game releases (American McGee’s Grimm , for example).

I used GameTap last year for around two months (I unsubscribed due to school) and I was very happy about the service. It offered a lot of games for a pretty low subscription price–including gems like Beyond Good and Evil, all the Splinter Cell games, and all the Rainbow Six games.

samandmaxIn fact, the reason I subscribed was for the first episode of Sam & Max: Season 1; way to go marketing! Also, customer service was pretty forgiving and offered me a few extra months of free subscription play till I got out of school. I didn’t bite at the offer though.
