GameTrailers TV replaces Game Head

gametrailers tvFriday night viewers of the Spike TV video games show Game Head will be saddened to hear that the show is now terminated. Supporters of the show and fans of Geoff Keighley, however, should be pleased to hear that he will be joined with Daniel Kaiser and Amanda MacKay of gametrailers.com to host the new show, GameTrailers TV.

GameTrailers TV will debut on Spike TV next month which will include industry news, interviews, features and world premieres of new game trailers. One of the reasons of the switch to the new show is to get gametrailers.com directly involved with television.

MTV Networks, which owns Spike TV, purchased GameTrailers.com two years ago. The site attracts a monthly audience of 9 million unique visitors, so creating a show that melds both the concept of Game Head and popularity of gametrailers.com is a logical decision.

"I think of it as Game Head on steroids because we’ll have more resources and coverage," Keighley says. "It broadens the events we can cover around the country and the world."

Fans of both the site and the show can upload questions that might broadcast on the show. Jon Slusser, who helped launch the site in 2003 said that "We want to give gamers a piece of the show."

To tell you the truth, I really don’t think that this is the best way of getting the community involved. Other video game shows did the same thing and really didn’t accomplish much, usually taking questions that the basic gamer knew the answer to already. If you ask me, adding some top notch user created trailers would be a better decision.

Also, trailers that premier on the show along with full versions of the show themselves can then be viewed on the xbox 360 marketplace in HD.

Seems like GameTrailers TV will be more of the same like Game Head except with two new hosts. Personally Game Head never did much for me. The concept was a good idea, but the fall-through was very disorganized, skipping from an interview to a 30 second review of a game, then back to the interview. Let’s just hope this doesn’t turn into G4-like horror.

Fans can catch the show at the convenient time of 1 a.m. ET/PT on Fridays starting on Jan 25.
