GDC Awards nominations now open

GDC 08As of yesterday, qualified industry professionals can submit their nominations for the prestigious Game Developers Choice Lifetime Acheivement Award, as well as two new honors – the Ambassador Award and the Pioneer Award.

The Ambassador Award exists to recognize an individual or group responsible for helping the game industry to "advance to a better place, either through facilitating a better game community from within, or by reaching outside the industry to be an advocate for video games to help further the art."

The Pioneer Award will be granted to an individual or group for developing "a breakthrough technology, game concept or gameplay design at a crucial juncture in videogame history, paving the way for the myriad developers who followed them."

Said Game Developers Conference executive director Jamil Moledina of these new additions to this year’s ceremony:

"Like the GDC itself, the Game Developers Choice Awards must evolve with the breakthroughs we celebrate, particularly in light of the industry’s growing impact on pop culture."

"By creating new, more inclusive categories and a new Ambassador award that focuses on advancing the industry itself — as well as partnering with Gamasutra.com on our peer-based voting mechanism — we are ideally positioned to spotlight all the game industry’s choices for professional achievement."

Awards will be conferred during the 2008 Game Developers Conference, which is to take place February 18-22 in the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
