Ghostbusters Video Game Back On Track

Ghost busters game on trackAlthough Ghostbusters is over two decades old, it’s still ranked as one of the top comedy films of all time–ranking an impressive #28 on the American Film Institute’s Top 100 comedy film list. Ghostbusters fans may have a reason to get excited again, as the Ghostbusters video game, which was experiencing problems in production, will be released sometime in 2008.

A video posted on YouTube earlier this year showed footage of a Ghostbusters game running on an Xbox 360. Zootfly, the title’s developer, admitted that the video showed actual scenes of gameplay, but said that the game may have "hit a snag" regarding intellectual property rights. Since the announcement, any further news of the game has been relatively scarce.

But one of the stars from the film, Dan Aykroyd, has inadvertently given out new information, confirming that the game is still on track for release. Aykroyd said to the Edmonton Sun that he would be making an appearance in the game. "Universal [Studios] purchased the rights from Sony for a game. I’m actually going to have to perform and do some motion capture for them. That will be next year."

Some industry watchers were speculating that the "IP snag" may have been due to Sony’s ownership of the movie rights, and the game being released on the Xbox 360. But Aykroyd’s statement makes it seem that the issues have somehow been resolved. So Ghostbusters fans should be ready to enjoy some apparition capturing fun in the near future–although what system they’ll be doing it on isn’t yet clear.
