Guitar Hero III heading to PC and Mac

slashgh3Been itching to stretch your guitar fingers for the past few years but only own a PC or Mac? Never fear, Aspyr Media announced today they’ll be porting Activision’s upcoming Guitar Hero III to PC and Mac; it’s expected they’ll be released on October 28th.

This marks the first Guitar Hero game to be ported to PC since the franchise’s debut in 2005. The guitars will be USB. If you prefer keyboard and/or mouse controls instead, the game will support those too.

In associated Guitar Hero news, Guitar Hero II’s downloadable song packages continues to accumulate loads of hits on Xbox Live. In less than five months, the game’s song packages racked up over 650,000 downloads while individual songs racked up over 2 million downloads.

Here’s a list of features in the PC/Mac version of Guitar Hero III:

"Being developed and published exclusively by Aspyr, the PC and Mac versions will match their console counterparts with explosive new content and features including a multiplayer action-inspired battle mode, grueling boss battles, a host of exclusive unlockable content and visually stunning rock venues.

"With more than 70 songs in the set list, and more original master tracks than ever before, players will be able to shred from many of the freshest and hottest artists today, along with many of the most popular rock songs ever recorded. Expanded online multiplayer game modes will also allow PC and Mac enthusiasts to rip head-to-head against players around the world and across either platform, raising the level of competition for true legendary rock status."
