Halo FPS MMO on the way?

Masta ChiefCould Bungie’s future in the Halo universe come our way via a… Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter Role Playing Game? According to Electronic Gaming Monthly’s Rumor Mill, that may just be the case.

"Microsoft may start a war — word is they’re making a massively multiplayer online first-person shooter for 360. Hmm, wonder what Bungie is up to?"

Now of course this is just speculation on EGM’s part, but consider the facts:

1. Bungie is already at work on the next Halo game

2. Peter Jackson’s Halo project still has no official genre associated with it and is referred to as "interactive entertainment"

3. The Halo name will make console gamers buy ANYTHING, and console MMOs still have yet to really take off. This could be just what the genre needs

Again, none of this is even remotely close to being classified as "conclusive evidence," but if the rumor indeed becomes a reality, we at least know that all the acronym-obsessed out there will have a field day penning "MMOFPSRPG" over and over again.
