How Darth Vader and Yoda wound up on SC4

Darth VaderNo doubt the news of Darth Vader and Yoda appearing in Soul Calibur 4, was to say the least, a shock for many. But the big question arises–how did Lucas Arts team up with Namco in producing a Soul Calibur game with Star Wars characters? Did somebohdy turn to the Dark Side?

According to game trailers.com, Katsutoshi Sasaki, the game’s director, explained how it all happened.

"The thing that I want to make clear is that we make the game for consumers… It’s not for us, it’s not for the company. When we think about what makes the consumers happy, what do they want to play, what makes them excited about the game, that was guest characters.

"When we thought about what guest characters would fit in the Soul Calibur universe, we naturally ended up with Vader and Yoda."

So it appears that it wasn’t a deal struck behind the closed doors of a smoke-filled room, but was just the natural course of developing a game that would appeal to consumers. For Star Wars fans, Darth Vader and Yoda in a Soul Calibur game might be enough to entice some into buying the title.
