How much electricity do game consoles use? Lots.

PSthwii60Did you ever wonder how much it costs to run that Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or even Nintendo Wii?

Well so did Choice, Australia’s largest consumer organization, so they conducted a study that examined the power consumption (and subsequent dollar consumption) of a variety of computer and home entertainment electronics.

What they discovered is that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are two of the most gluttonous of all devices tested. Only a 42-inch plasma TV can top the 360, and it falls just short of the PS3’s electron monopoly. The lightweight Wii, on the other hand, uses about a tenth the power of the other two consoles.

Here’s the videogame section of the chart, visit Choice for the full report.
