Insomniac could branch out to non-PS3 consoles

Insomniac Games

At a recent interview, Insomniac community manager James Stevenson has hinted at a possibility of seeing future game titles being released for consoles other than the PS3.

Insomniac is credited with starting successful game franchises in the past with the development of the Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet & Clank series. Most recently, the developer has bumped their efforts onto the PS3 platform with the release of the launch title Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 along with the continuation of the Ratchet & Clank saga.

While not going so far as to abandon the PS3 entirely by releasing Ratchet & Clank or Resistance titles for other consoles (the IP for both games is squarely in the hands of Sony), Stevenson does not discount the potential of developing games for the Xbox 360 and Wii consoles.

Stevenson says in the interview:

"Never say never. Who knows what the future holds. We obviously have an awesome relationship with Sony. We have amazing product development support. So we have a happy relationship with Sony. But, like I say, you never say never. We are fully independent still. We obviously will never make a Resistance or Ratchet game on another platform because Sony owns those IPs. But as far as new IP goes, who knows? I could see that future. But right now we’re very happy with the relationship we have with Sony."

It seems that an Insomniac game may soon appear on a non-PS3 console near you. But what about Sony? The publisher has been known in the past to retain a near kung-fu grip on their exclusive developers; will Insomniac be able to create games for other consoles on par with Resistance or Ratchet & Clank? Thoughts?
