Kill more Zergs. StarCraft II announced

Blizzard Entertainment announced StarCraft II today, the sequel to their smash-hit 1998 RTS game. The announcement was held during their Worldwide Invitational event in Seoul, South Korea. For the past week, teaser pages on Blizzard’s official site counted down to the announcement with a montage look of their past games.

zergsAccording to the press release, StarCraft II will feature the return of the Protoss, Terran and Zerg races. In addition to an overhaul to balance gameplay, the title will feature several new units, new abilities for existing StarCraft units, a new custom 3D engine with realistic physics, a new and unique single player campaign and multiplayer through a planned updated version to Blizzard’s online gaming service, Battle.net.

Mike Morhaime, President and Co-Founder of Blizzard Entertainment, stated, "With StarCraft II, we’ll be able to do everything we wanted to do with the original StarCraft and more. We recognize that expectations are high following the long-running popularity of the original game, but we plan to meet those expectations and deliver an engaging, action-packed, competitive experience that StarCraft players and strategy gamers worldwide will enjoy."

StarCraft II is planned for release on PC and Mac but a release date hasn’t been announced yet so stay tuned for more details.
