Largest seized modded console haul in UK history

wii mod chipYou can’t elude the police, especially in the UK. Yesterday, the West Yorkshire Police seized the largest mod chipped collection of video game consoles in UK history.

What initially began as a raid of a stall at a market — 5,000 illegal software worth over £50,000 ($101,855) was seized, led to a massive discovery of 246 Wiis and 169 Xbox 360 mod chipped consoles in the man’s residence.

In addition to those findings, the police also found more mod chipped consoles: 19 PSPs, 12 DS Lites, 6 PS2s and 6 PS3s. It doesn’t stop there either, the man also pirated and duplicated plenty of software too; 300-400 illegal games and over £5,000 ($10,185) in cash.

Graham Hebblethwaite, Chief Officer of West Yorkshire Trading Standard, said, "The haul of items from this operation should send out a clear warning to individuals involved in the illegal copyright industry that they will dealt with severely. This sort of crime carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment."

Mod chipped consoles are usually altered consoles that can play foreign or illegal duplicated software. Obviously, this is illegal and also voids the warranty (but if you’re going to jail, I imagine you won’t care about the voided warranty). In other words, don’t do it.
