Mastertronic inks deal with PopCap

In a recent press release, independent publisher Mastertronic has confirmed that it’s inked a deal
with casual game developer PopCap to bring classic games such as Plants vs. Zombies to a store near you.

For those unfamiliar with the name, PopCap is a small independent game development house with a specialisation in casual games. Since its creation in 2000 the company’s biggest titles include, Bejeweled, Peggle and Plants vs. Zombies.

The company’s most recent deal will see these games — which previously have in general only been available for download online — released in stores across Europe and other selected PAL territories.

Kicking off the deal will be an upcoming games package titled PopCap Hits for the Xbox 360. The package will contain the titles Bejeweled 2, Peggle, Feeding Frenzy and Astropop.

A second package imaginatively titled PopCap Hits 2 containing Plants vs. Zombies, Zuma, Feeding Frenzy 2 and Heavy Weapon has also been confirmed for release.

Mastertronic and PopCap also revealed that there will be other gamepacks released for the PC and Nintendo DS later this year. Share your thoughts and experiences of PopCap’s games in the comments section below.
