MGS4 editions abound. Gotta catch 'em all

mgs4smallMetal Gear Solid 4 is going to be huge; there’s no question about it. So with a game of MGS4’s caliber why not throw a crap-load of editions to make money from the fans?

In a nod to Sony’s numerous PS3 SKU, Metal Gear Solid 4 is getting the star treatment. Needless to say fans are going to be able to buy the Metal Gear Solid 4 experience they want.

There are four ways fans can grab MGS4; the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Standard Edition, the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition, the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PlayStation 3 Hardware Bundle, and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition PlayStation 3 Hardware Bundle. Two game SKUs and two consoles.

Those pre-ordering just the game will not only receive the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2, which basically explains exactly why MGS4 is taking place, and who is who within the MGS world (focusing mostly on the various Snake characters), but also an invite to the Metal Gear Online experience.

This isn’t just a demo folks, it is the full online experience, so pre-ordering the game may be worth trying out Konami’s new attempt to take MGS online. Pre-ordering the standard edition of MGS4 also nabs gamers a free art book, while those going for the limited edition at a whopping $84.99 get a second Blu-ray disk of documentaries and the MGS4 soundtrack.

Then there are the two console SKUs. Both come with MGS4, and both also will be sporting the new Dualshock PS3 controllers. It is interesting to note that the regular hardware bundle is going to include the 80GB PS3 so those who are storage freaks can be happy once again. No details were revealed about the limited edition hardware SKU except that is the gunmetal gray we’ve seen in pictures. Clearly this is the model the hardcore MGS fan is going to purchase.

So as anyone can see, Sony is going all out for Metal Gear Solid 4 and by all means they should. Microsoft milked Halo 3 to death, and anyone who thought Sony wouldn’t do otherwise with their flagship title clearly hasn’t been around the past few years. Yes, it does seem weird that there are four SKUs, but hey, at least we aren’t being forced into buying an over price Limited Edition if we don’t want to.
