Mini-Crime Wave Strikes the Launch Locations for the PS3

The PS3,s scarcity is revealing the seamier side of gamers, as various reports have hit the wires regarding crimes associated with the launch event.

The Sacramento Bee reported that at least four PS3 systems were stolen along with several Xbox 360,s from a GameStop store by a pair of armed robbers in Elk Grove, California. The police were alerted and warned those waiting in line for the next gen consoles to be on guard for any potential problems and asked the shoppers not to stand alone or to bring cash for purchases.

In Oregon, KMTR News said that three men who camped out in front of a Circuit City store to get a chance at buying one of the PS3s were held up and robbed Thursday morning.

Further incidents were reported by Associated Press. In the most serious occurrence so far, armed men attempted to rob a line of 15-20 people outside of a Wal-Mart in Putnam, Connecticut. The crowd was waiting patiently for the doors to open when they were held up at gun point. One of the customers refused to give up his money and was shot in the chest by one of the armed men. The wounds were not serious and the man was reported in stable condition. Police are now searching for the shooter, who is suspected of being a teenage boy.
