New guitar controller rocks out for $179

Tired of your Guitar Hero controller? Are you constantly worrying about the longevity of your Rock Band guitar and how flimsy it feels?

Never worry again…for a price, that is. Peak Products has announced a full sized, full weighted guitar controller for both games for $179 called Starpex.

This may sound a little hefty in price, but if you want to complete the illusion of being a rock star, this is the way to go. The guitar looks suspiciously like Fender’s Statocaster model, (I own a real cherry red Elite Statocaster, btw) and sports a hardwood body, neck and headstock.

The guitar is fully compatible for Rock Band and Guitar Hero on the PS3 and PS2 and will sport wired or wireless play, a ten button fret board, overdrive button, improved whammy bar, enhanced strum bar and modular design.

Jamie Leece, Vice President for Peak Products said:

"With well over 11 million copies of Guitar Hero/Rock Band sold on the PlayStation consoles, we see a tremendous opportunity in bringing Starpex to market. Never before have Guitar Hero/Rock Band enthusiasts been able to shred with a hardwood, handcrafted authentic guitar controller that’s built with the look and feel of a real guitar. This will change the way the games are played."

For true-blue guitar fans, the Starpex looks mighty fine. But at a price tag of $179, it might be a little too pricey for some rock and rollers.

The Starpex guitar controller will be available for sale at Circuit City and other retailers starting in August.
