New Max Payne 3 video flaunts visual effects and cinematics

Rockstar has released a new video in its Max Payne 3 Design and Technology series that shows off the game’s visual effects and innovative cinematic presentation.

The Max Payne series is well-known for its graphic-novel-inspired cutscenes, but the trailer shows that a different approach is being taken with Max Payne 3. Real-time visuals, kinetic typography, and innovative cutscene-to-gunplay transitions are used to make what Rockstar calls a “uniquely cinematic action game.”

Transitions from cutscene to in-game action use a range of cinematic editing techniques… without ever showing a loading screen. Max Payne 3 is segmented into distinct chapters, and the transitions are present between these chapters as well.

The trailer also discusses the game’s real-world environments, destructible environmental elements, and how these work together with the cinematic presentation to immerse the player.

See the trailer for yourself below, and be sure to check back for the next installment, which will highlight the game’s multiplayer options.
