New RAGE gameplay trailer shows helpfulness of drones

RAGE

Bethesda Softworks has unveiled a new gameplay trailer for it and id Software’s highly-anticipated upcoming first-person shooter RAGE, which shows just how important the use of machine allies can be.

Titled "The Shrouded", the trailer shows a bit of the Shrouded Tunnel quest from the game. In it the player is tasked with infiltrating a gang’s bunker and eliminating the three bomb caches within.

After showing some driving, vehicle combat, and how a crossbow can be used for stealth, the player’s presence is made known and a series of firefights ensue. In the first of these engagements you see the usefulness of the previously showcased spider drone as it chases after, jumps on, and shoots down foes. But that wasn’t the only robotic companion featured in the video.

The player also laid out several mini-turrets during the quest to lay down fire, which can actually be kicked by enemies and disabled. A third drone that proved most crucial in both battle and mission was a remote-controlled RC car packed with explosives. Careful maneuvering and timing can get the player to places otherwise unreachable or take down larger, heartier bad guys.

RAGE is currently set for a September 13 release in North America and September 16 release in Europe for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
