Nintendo powers down magazine

250 issue

After 24 years in publication, “Nintendo Power” magazine will cease to create new issues of The Big N’s gaming news.

The publisher of “Nintendo Power,” Future Publishing, claimed yesterday that Nintendo is no longer interested in renewing its contract. The publisher also said that Nintendo has no plans on taking over the magazine. Later in the day, the gaming giant itself confirmed the news.

“Nintendo can confirm that Future US will end the production of ‘Nintendo Power’ magazine with the last issue slated for December 2012,” Nintendo said in its official statement.

Last week the staff of “Nintendo Power” was told they were being let go, but could possibly be picked up on other Future Publishing entities (GamesRadar, “MacLife”). The news comes after statistics were released stating that “Nintendo Power” locked in less than 500,000 monthly subscribers in an already floundering US magazine market.
