PC gaming in Germany down. Console gaming way up

pc gamersThe incidents of PC gaming giving way to console gaming is not specific to the United States, it would seem, but may be turning into an international occurance as well.

In Germany, PCs have dominated the gaming scene for quite a long time but recently the gaming habits of the Germans have switched over from PCs to consoles and mobile devices as their platforms of choice for gaming entertainment.

Germany’s game software sales went up 21% because of the increase in console and mobile device games while PC game sales went down 3%. Out of the three respective gaming platforms games for mobile devices grew fastest by rising 65% from previous earnings.

The German Games Software Association (BIU) said that the phenomenal increase in mobile games was due to the influx of the many new casual gamers who entered the market.

Perhaps the economics of having to upgrade virtually every year to keep up with the constant vertical movement to meet minimum requirements for PC games has finally reached a level where people are looking for an alternative.

The war isn’t over by any means, but it is clear that the PC game industry needs to rethink its business plan in order to recapture the game market from the upstart console and moblie device crowd.
