PlayStation: The Official Magazine has a "Future"!

officialplaystationmagWhile getting the axe back in November 2006, Sony announced today that the Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine will be resurrected from the dead.

With big smiles on their faces, Sony snatched a deal with magazine publisher juggernaut Future US, Inc. and it’ll see Future US to publish the newly named subscription magazine: PlayStation: The Official Magazine.

The first issue will be the Holiday 2007 edition, which will go on sale in late November. The initial circulation will be 300,000 copies and Future is penciling in 13 issues for its first year. Rob Smith, former editor-in-chief of PSM (another Future US published magazine), will become editor-in-chief for PlayStation: The Official Magazine.

Simon Whitcombe, publishing director for Future US, said, "We are enormously pleased to be selected to publish the Official title for one of the world’s great entertainment brands. Future’s international heritage is as a PlayStation publisher. PSM sold more than 40 million copies over its lifetime and we have published the Official PlayStation Magazine in the UK since 1995."

This news is on the heels of last week’s news of Future US resurrecting Nintendo Power Magazine. I’m saying it now, Future US will eventually run the entire gaming magazine landscape. Will that be a good or bad thing?
