Rockstar gives first details on Grand Theft Auto V

GTA V

Following yesterday’s release of the debut trailer for Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games has provided the first details regarding the title as the series returns to Los Santos.

In addition to the digital recreation of Los Angeles serving as the locale, GTAV will feature the city’s “surrounding hills, countryside, and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created.”

Grand Theft Auto V is another radical reinvention of the Grand Theft Auto universe,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “We are incredibly excited to share our new vision with our fans.”

As with Grand Theft Auto IV, GTAV will see online multiplayer continue for the franchise, though no further details on it were provided. The title will also continue GTA design staples such as an open world and story-based missions.

All that was provided concerning the game’s story is that it will focus “on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present-day Southern California.” No information about a protagonist — returning or new — or who the narrator is in the debut trailer was given.

Also absent was a release date, planned release platforms, and an ESRB rating.
