Rumor: no more patches for BF2?

BF2DigitalBattle is reporting that EA is not planning on any more patches for Battlefield 2. According to ex-DICE employees, after patch 1.41 (released in November), EA will be moving all their EA-DICE forces to focus on Battlefield 2142 and cutting support for BF2.

While EA hasn’t mentioned anything about another patch for BF2, they also haven’t said that there wouldn’t be another patch either. But one could say that if EA came out and said, "There will be no more patches for BF2", then the player population would abandon the game. So since there hasn’t been an announcement about either, BF2 will remain in its current state.

BF2_2Back in early October ’06, EA acquired Digital Illusions CE (DICE), the developers of the Battlefield franchise for EA. Two weeks later, several key former DICE employees decided to open up shop at Red Jade. The move by the former DICE employees was in reaction to the news that DICE would be taken over by EA.

Fredrick Liliegren, founder of Red Jade, said in an interview given to Gamasutra that, "I started to seriously consider this to be something I wanted to do about 6 months ago, but kept it on the back-burner to see what EA would be able to offer the DICE Canada team once the acquisition was completed."
