Rumor: PS3 troubles caused GTA IV delay?

ps3 gta ivComparable to opening a present on Christmas morning but instead of an awesome gift, you get a note inside saying, "whoops, even though we said we’ll get you an awesome present today, you’ll actually get it several months later", Grand Theft Auto IV was delayed from its October release date till sometime in early 2008.

So the question on everyone’s mind is, why?

While one answer, which is straight from Rockstar North, said that more development time is needed, people are picking deeper to expand on the cause. So one hypothesis is that the PS3 is simply much harder to develop for. This same reason was echoed by id Software’s John Carmack during this year’s QuakeCon.

Also considering that all previous GTA IV footage was shown from an Xbox 360 and that Rockstar has already developed games for the console, one could assume that developing for the PS3 has been a bumpy road.

A follow-up quote from Hosi Simon, Rockstar’s PR spokesperson, said, "Not that I can think of, but I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose. However, they’re identical games. We’re not hardware makers, and we’re not like a pawn between these companies, we try not to be as much as we can. We make great games for people to enjoy on whichever system they want."

Nonetheless, all of these reasonings are based on rather flimsy evidence, so beware.
