Sega is thinking of mergers and takeovers too

Sega MergersMike Hayes, Sega’s European chief, says that the company is on the lookout to take over some of their rivals in his somewhat oblique statements made in an interview given to MCV.

He said, "The growth challenge is never over. Therefore like most other publishers we are always on the lookout for new signings – product or company.

We have taken staff on at a rapid rate simply because we have been building our infrastructure and studios to enable us to be a successful publisher through Europe. For the most part this ‘establishment’ strategy is complete. However we are still looking for several key staff to continue our growth.”

Sega’s very successful co-venture with Nintendo on Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games has proven to be a monster hit all throughout Europe and is the best selling third-party title for the DS there.

With the recent merger of Activision and Vivendi it looks like more action maybe coming our way as game companies try to make the best deals to strengthen their position in the game market by joining with each other.
