Sony Confirms New Entertainment Bundle for PSP

Sony has confirmed stories that it will be releasing a special bundle package for their handheld game machine, the PSP. The kit will contain the PSP, the game ATV Offroad Fury: Blazing Trails, the movie Lords of Dogtown, and a 1 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo for the MSRP of $250. This new offering by Sony will emphasize the PSP,s various talents, which has been often touted as a multi-media machine.

Peter Dillle, vice president of marketing at Sony said, "The PSP system’s success stems from its ability to combine console-quality gaming with multimedia applications, and this new package showcases all of the system’s strengths. Whether consumers want to pick up and play one of our top racing franchises, watch a movie, or enjoy their own music, photos, downloadable content and more, the PSP Entertainment Pack delivers it all in one convenient package. While the PSP system has out-sold all other next-generation gaming handhelds in the period since its launch, we expect this new offering to drive additional consumer interest and sales, particularly as the holiday shopping season approaches.”

Dille,s proclamation of the PSP outselling all other handhelds since its launch is incorrect, according to sales numbers freely available on industry tracking sites. The new PSP Entertainment Pack is Sony,s attempt to increase its market share in the lucrative handheld game console market. Presently, worldwide sales for the PSP are at 13.37 million; the DS has a total user base of 22.9 million.

Game industry watchers point to Nintendo,s strong software titles as one of the reasons responsible for the DS,s rise to the top, with titles such as Animal Crossing, Nintendogs, Mario Kart Racing and Brain Age leading the way.
