Sony Slams Xbox HD Content-Drive Disparity

On the heels of two recent announcements by Microsoft–one touting new HD offerings and the other slamming Sony’s "broken network"— Sony,s David Karraker, unofficial attack dog for matters concerning the Xbox 360, fired back at Microsoft. Karraker said, "I think they are doing a disservice to their consumer base because they are ignoring all those people who bought the Core system." The Xbox 360 Core system lacks the 20GB internal drive that the Premium model has, and therefore cannot download and save media content.

Karraker further stated, "We would never segregate or shut out any of our consumers from our entertainment experience because they didn’t buy the top of the line system.”

As the launch of the PlayStation 3 nears, gamers can only expect more industry infighting from Sony and Microsoft. What remains to be seen is whether either company will consider Nintendo’s Wii, the only "next-gen" console which has avoided serious criticism from either company, and the system some industry watchers predict may emerge at the top of the pack.
