Sony's Longtime PR Director Resigns

A shakeup in the upper management of Sony has occurred with the sudden resignation of Molly Smith. Smith, who has served as the director of Sony,s public relations department, left yesterday. Sony has yet to make an official announcement about the abrupt departure of Smith.

Smith became the director of PR shortly after the launch of the original PlayStation, and has been involved in public relations duties of over 80 Playstation games. Of note, she has credits to such mega hits as God of War, Final Fantasy VII, Gran Turismo 4, ICO and Syphon Filter. The PR department, which falls under the reins of marketing, recently signed on Peter Dille from THQ as the new senior vice president of marketing.

Although no details were given as to why Smith left her post, Sony,s problems with the PS3,s image in the public,s eye may have been part of the reason for her departure. The PS3 has had a difficult time in presenting a clear cut impression of what sort of next-gen game console it is. The only prominent features that most people know about the PS3 are its expensive price and the onboard Blu-ray DVD player. Outside of these facts, the PS3 has had a continuing problem with presenting itself as a viable purchase for gamers.
