Sony's new Qriocity service to use PSN ID

PlayStation Network

As a constructive effort in corporate synergy, Sony has given a first glimpse at their new media streaming service, cleverly designated as Qriocity.

According to Sony representatives at CES, Qriocity will act as a bond between the PlayStation Network and various media devices that do not fall in the video game category.

In other words, consumers will be able to utilize their PSN IDs in order to stream various forms of media (such as movies and TV shows) directly to their device of choice. Each PSN ID will carry an individual account that can be tailored to a certain age group, genre, or access level.

On-demand services are a dime-a-dozen these days, but Sony’s unique union of a pre-existing network and new technology may result in a lucrative endeavor.

Expect the new service to be launched this February. Sony has not yet released any concrete information involving pricing, subscription rate, or other fees.
